President Obama addressed the Race to the Top initiative today at the National Urban League's 100th Anniversary convention.
Obama talked about how the economic crisis had an "especially brutal impact" on minority communities. He said education is an economic issue and his administration will take time to approach the nation's education system.
“I want us to build a culture where we idolize the people who are shaping our children's future. I want some teachers on the covers of some of those magazines -some teachers on MTV,” Obama said.
“I was on The View yesterday, and somebody asked me who Snooki was. I say, ‘I don't know who Snooki is but I know some really good teachers that you guys should be talking about’.”

This is baloney. Baltimore Public Schools spend more money per student than dang near anyone, but all their schools are crap. I go there to volunteer and they are in bad shape due to vandalism and graffiti. ( Is that redundant?) Anyway, until PARENTS start kicking these kids in the azz and fathers start being responsible, no amount of money is going to change anything. Most of the people in the are are so ignornat ( and I don't mean stupid, I mean ignorant of what's happening ) that all the money will more than likely be siphoned off to pay for some politicians dream house while the kids still get a crap education, in a crap school, by mostly crap teachers. ( I know there are some WONDERFUL teachers out there, but there's a lot who just don't care......with good reason, the kids are outta control!! )
