We knew when one good old boy called GOP candidate Nikki Haley a raghead that there was something foul going on down in South Carolina.

But this brother takes the cake.

Anti-immigration movement steeped in racism: Here’s the proof
05/21/2010
by devona walker
Anyone who criticizes Arizona’s immigration law, requiring that law enforcement stop anyone they suspect of being an undocumented or illegal immigrant, has been criticized -- accused of playing the race card or race-baiting.

There are many reasons to be concerned with the rate of illegal immigration in this country. But at the very roots of this “nativist” movement, there is some very real racism. Don’t believe me, then perhaps you might take the word of one of the nation’s most vehemently anti-immigrant lobbying groups, ALIPAC (Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee).

ALIPAC was recently forced to withdraw their support from a rally in Arizona supporting SB 1070, otherwise known as the “papers please” legislation because they found out that its organizers were not only welcoming but inviting racist skinheads groups to the protest.

Blue-on-black crime: Seven-year-old girl killed by Detroit Police
05/17/2010
by devona walker
Seven-year-old Aiyana Jones was sleeping on her sofa Sunday night when the Detroit Police Department busted in. An officer tussled with her grandmother. He discharged his weapon, shooting the young girl in the neck and killing her instantly. That is what is known so far. We don't know what kind of altercation there was between the office and the woman. We do know that she told them they had the wrong house. The investigation into this case is ongoing, but we should all play close attention to the details because though it was a tragedy, it was a preventable one. And the immediate details about how this young girl was killed are suspect at best.

"She was sleeping and they came in the door shooting and throwing flash grenades ... burned my baby up and shot her, killed her," said

Playing the Opposite Card: The once marginalized extremist bold move into the mainstream
04/29/2010
by devona walker
When President Obama appealed to historically disenfranchised voters, who often do not vote in this country: minorities, the young and even women. Rush Limbaugh, a man who has bemoaned the end of slavery, called him a racist. Then, President Obama said Arizona's immigration law could lead us down the wrong road. Sarah Palin, in response, claimed he was playing the race card. When former President Bill Clinton warned against the intensely violent rhetoric on the far right and said words can lead to actions, Limbaugh said Clinton was to blame for the violence.

Black folks need to get off the fence when it comes to profiling immigrants
04/26/2010
by devona walker
There is this historical competition between poorer Blacks and newly arriving immigrants when it comes to jobs in the U.S. There are also some historical tensions within these communities, especially in places like Los Angeles, where Blacks and Latinos have, by designed, been relegated to co-occupy the same outlying neighborhoods. They have, as a result, competed for territory. Latinos have in many ways replaced blacks as the new poor "but still working" class. Consequently, many black folks remain reticent about immigration reform. We are sitting on the fence even as Arizona passed a clearly racist and clearly anti-civil rights immigration enforcement statute.

Tea Party sympathizers see Blacks as lazy, dumb and shifty
04/14/2010
by Alyssa
The racist undercurrents of the Tea Party movement are no secret, but results of a new survey are still shocking. Somehow it's worse to see bigotry quantified.

The survey, conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, looked at the attitudes of whites on minority groups, and found that whites who generally approve of the Tea Partiers looked down on Blacks even more that whites in general do.

GOP sows seeds of hate: Silent when it bares fruit

Progressive should be celebrating this. The teabaggers and the Republican party that panders to them and eggs them on are finally showing the world just what an angry bunch of bigoted idiots they really are.

Erick Erickson is CNN's go-to bigot, misogynist and homophobe
03/16/2010
by devona walker
In this quote, unquote “post racial” age, CNN has hired a guy who is not just an apparent bigot, but a mysoginist and avid homophobe. Erick Erickson, the editor of redstate.com. will begin working at CNN as a political commentaor opposite John King on John King USA.

Guess the brass at CNN haven’t entirely recovered from their rabid racist withdrawals since Glenn Beck left and went to Fox News. And those withdrawals probably worsened when Lou Dobbs quit a few months back. They needed angry old white guy to fill out their lineup. After all, they do have plenty of minorities and women at the network. They wouldn’t want the tea party contingent go unrepresented.
