In the delta, just south of the Belle Chasse Ferry at Beshel’s Marina, Black fishermen are clinging for hope that someone will cleanup their little stretch of the bayou.
The fishermen of the Gulf can’t even get a break. First Hurricane Katrina and now his enormous oil spill disaster caused by the careless company, British Petroleum or ‘BP.’ Historically African American fishing towns have been struggling for every dollar that they have earned through fishing.
Their way of life is being threatened, and it’s only getting worse. Places where oil is being cleaned up is posing the problem of trying to find it. Gallons of oil have ruined our ecosystem and it may take years to recover. But if help doesn’t come quickly for the fishermen of the Delta, those families may be pushed out of business.
