Hard to believe it, but it's been a year since Americans elected our first Black president, Barack Obama. From now through January, we're looking back on how people across the country, from Grant Park to D.C. to Los Angeles and beyond, spent that historic Election Day 2008.
Click over to a larger version of this map to watch video of CNN and BET calling the election for Obama and people's reactions to the news, to view photos of people in line at the polls, and to read Obama's full election night speech or news coverage of voting irregularities that left many people worried about just how the election would turn out. You can also add your own memories from November 4, 2008, by adding them yourself or e-mailing your story, photos and video to editor@theloop21.com.

Wow, great map! i love the graphics!
My daughter and I were watching the returns. After voting early the previous Saturday, I spent Election Day calling around the country for BarackObama.com and reminding people to get out the vote. Later that evening, we watched the returns. I knew it was a lock when he took Ohio. (Yes. Yes. Yes.) When it was announced, we popped open the sparkling wine. Boyfriend then calls and asks if I am happy. I certainly was. We all were.
