Black Unemployment Rate Dips

The umemployment rate for blacks in June dropped 0.2 percent, to 14.7 percent, while the national unemployment rate remained steady at 9.5 percent. Since the start of the recession in December 2007, the number of unemployed people has increased by 7.2 million, and the unemployment rate has risen 4.6 percentage points.

Job numbers also continued to decline in June, by 467,000. The job losses were widespread across major industries, with large declines in manufacturing, professional and business services, and construction. (The Bureau of Labor Statistics)
