On Saturday night, stars gathered at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif. to honor Lionel Richie. The UNCF's An Evening of Stars featured performances by stars such as Brian McKnight, Stevie Wonder, Akon, Chrisette Michelle, Johnny Gill, Jesse McCartney and Katherine McPhee—singing covers of Richie's best hits.
Chrisette Michelle tore the house down with a gospel rendition off Richie's new album Just Go and audiences were delighted to hear some performers perform twice. The show was being taped for its airing in January.
Nonetheless, the auditorium was packed and other celebrities were there to honor Richie's legacy in other ways. Tom Joyner, Suzanne de Passe, Shemar Moore and James Ingram were all there to present and speak about their life with Richie and his music. The only one not in attendance was Richie's daughter, Nicole, who recently gave birth to her second child with beau Joel Madden.
Stay tuned for more on UNCF's An Evening of Stars Tribute to Lionel Richie when it airs for two nights beginning January 23, 2010.
