U.S. And Russia Eye Lowering Nuclear Alert Levels

According to the Washington Post, the high alert levels for U.S. and Russian nuclear forces are primarily a carry over from the Cold War. The two nations, the Post reports, might consider lowering that alert as part of a bilateral arms control porcess.
The study reminds readers that the United States "keeps roughly 1,000 nuclear warheads on alert." (The Washington Post)
