Things happen each week that baffle us, amuse us, or just make us angry. Unfortunately, we can't respond to everything, so here's a quick roundup of five things that caught our attention this week.
1. Mo'Nique, Gabby Sidibe, Morgan Freeman and Lee Daniels have all been nominated for Oscars this year. Mo'Nique, Gabby and Lee were nominated for Precious and Morgan for his role of Nelson Mandela in Invictus. Mo'Nique already won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, so I'm anxious to see what will happen. The show will air live on March 7, 2010.
2. For all you LOST fans, the first episode of the final season premiered Tuesday. Producers claim all of your questions will be answered in this season, so don't give up watching just yet. If you're not a fan, consider buying the DVDs, LOST is certainly a phenomenonal show with a great diverse cast.
3. First lady Michelle Obama launched her fight against childhood obesity this week, a wonderful platform for her to conquer considering obesity is a huge problem in America. Her main goals will be to increase the number of healthy schools, providing more opportunities for kids to be active, making affordable healthy food available and making sure that parents have nutrition facts so they can feed their children in the most beneficial way.
4. Beyonce might have broken a Grammy record with her six-statue win but not everyone's blown away by the star or her Grammy performance... Chelsea Lately ripped her crouch grabbing, hair throwing production and wondered why she hasn't taken a break yet. After the show, Chelsea was slammed by Beyonce's fans via Twitter but she didn't back down.
5. Vanity Fair's 'Young Hollywood' issue has come under fire for being lily white. Apparently, in Hollywood or perhaps in the wishful Hollywood world, there aren't any minorities in young Hollywood. Hmmm...very interesting considering there's Gabby, Zoe Kravitz, Zoe Saldana, America Ferrera, Jessica Alba, Lauren London and Jurnee Smollett. Granted these beautiful faces aren't seen nearly enough but dang, Vanity Fair acts like they don't even exist. What's even more disturbing is that commentators on Yahoo's Shine and Jezebel.com don't even understand the big deal. As one so eloquently wrote:
You need to get over yourself, maybe we don`t want to see fat ugly black women on the cover, maybe white people want to see pretty young white girls on OUR covers. Don`t force it!
Wow, there's nothing worse than an uninformed idiot.
