  • Most of the problems that disadvantaged blacks or any disadvantaged people have can be related back to a lack of education. Think about it... If there is one thing that should be fixed it's the education system. A whole lot of America's problems would go away or at least lessen if people were more educated.

  • Blah. I caught the last 5 minutes of the speech last night and I wasn't impressed but I was amused at the group of black people Bush had on display in the front row. He truly is a character :)

  • I don't think highlighting a distinction between "white America" and "black America" is racist because the fact of the matter is there IS a difference between the two communities whether you want to acknowledge it or not. I don't understand how stating facts in a news story can worsen the "racial climate" in America by simply commenting on them. People don't have to get on the internet to be convinced of things that they feel and experience in their own lives. It's easy to say that we should just ignore racial disparities but it's much harder to take the time to get a real grasp on the issues behind the scenes. Your comments don't reflect an understanding of the "racial climate" that you're living in and continuing down this road of ignorance will only exacerbate said race problem you've oversimplified.

  • I think that street culture and it's destructive ideas are some of the biggest problems that black men and boys face. It seems that all other problems that they deal with boil down to this main. My question is, what can we do as a community (in addition to individually and as parents) to combat these destructive behaviors, ideas, images, etc.?  Brooklyne Gipson, editorial assistant

After 30 years of growth hip hop music was declared dead by rapper Nas after rap sales slid 21 percent from 2005 to 2006 and for the first time in 12 years no rap album was among the top 10 sellers of the year. To adapt the hip hop community adapted a laissez faire economics policy that may successfully put the record industry giants out of business if they don't step up to the learning curve. ...

  • Hip-hop artists adapt to changing industry
    Tue, 05/26/2009 - 00:00
As music becomes more and more readily available on the internet, record companies are being rendered obsolete because artists no longer need them to serve as an intermediary between their music and the masses. However, there is a debate as to whether or not giving away music for free is a smart idea and how this free market philosophy will affect the overall quality of music. Will consumers weed out the good from the bad, or will be the good be drowned in a sea of wannabes rushing to the Web to ...
