- Once again you have hit the nail on the head, giving full-circle insight and thoughtful commentary to a complex, ambivalent and provocative issue. If I buy some diamonds, I will at least have to clear my conscience, by researching which country they come from. Not enough?

- In August, 2008, Obama said that he was for a comprehensive energy package, which included some offshore drilling, nuclear energy and clean coal. He didn't "reverse" is policy. You need to stop foaming at the mouth, waiting for a president to fail, who sincerely wants the best for this country. You already see what happened when the Bush/Cheney administration did to this country, and what happened when Clinton de-regulated the stock market. You see what happened when greed was allowed to rule the country. You would rather see Israel or Iraq or anybody else get U.S. money than sick Americans. You see how out of control healthcare costs are? What did Reagan do about illegal immigration? Or health care costs? Emergency rooms? Medical fraud? Fraud in his own administration? $117 for a screwdriver. Look at the truly corrupt administrations. Reagan. Bush. Why don't you grow up and let people do what is best for this country. What are you proud of? Because you voted for Bush? Proud conservative? Iraq was the worse foreign policy move of all time. You won't be satisfied until some more Republicans take control of this country again. Fiscal conservatives like Michael Steele? Or those on "C" street? Grow up. This illusion of fiscal responsibility has been revealed. (Or responsibility, in general). Look what happened on wall street, the housing market, national security, foreign policy. Horrible judgement, horrible decisions. Misleading the American public, covering it up. They blew it. This country is in such bad shape. I really wish that they would have continued to count the votes in Florida. I wish that the poplular vote decided the presidency, until electoral. We wouldn't be in this mess. I wish that the attorney general wasn't a Bush fan. I wish his brother wasn't governor at that time. But you still won't be satisfied until Cheney is back in office. They have no respect for you, or this country. But you won't be satisfied until your father figures are back in control. Who let you in the door, anyway?
read more- I'm an African American man, and when I hear these type of stories, it often takes a lot of my energy. The media will take a story such as this and run with it. There are so very many racial injustices that occur every day, that are not reported. This is a joke to me. Is this story newsworthy or interesting because he is a Harvard professor? How about talking about some beatings, perhaps, or some wrongful incarcerations, or hiring discrimination. I have had bad experiences with racist police officers, and have had situations in which they changed their perception and treatment of me, after a conversation. I'm willing to bet that both parties gave a biased version of what happened. First off, I am always under the assumption that many police officers are "power freaks", and stereotpe people. However, I can remember "not wanting" to answer questions and because I felt that they were targeting me. I'm not convinced that this professor immediately showed his I.D. The officer probably didn't treat the professor with the correct amount of dignity, most likely. We all know that many police officers have big egos, and don't enjoy being "fronted off." What bothers me, is that stories like this are overblown, and stories of severe injustices and inprisonment are not told at all. When the media jumps all over these stories, then Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are all over it. Eventually, there is the perception that we are always mad, and whining about the white man. I just need to see more balance. Too much of one story, and not enough of others that illustrate severe injustices that ruin people's lives, or injustices that deserve more publicity than this successful Harvard who followed some power-hungry (and maybe very well racist) police officer outside and called him a racist in front of people.

read more- Great article. Very thoughtful, logical and clear-minded analysis of the issue. One wonders why these type of common sense approaches are not implemented in law enforcement more often, consistently or thoroughly. It seems that those who make the rules usually have little regard for what is fair and practical for the average person, or for those without "proper representation", education or power. However, the arrogant sometimes are victims of their own selfishness, egos, thirst for power and lack of respect for the general public.

Jules Lange: Diary of a Mad "Light Skin-ded" ManWed, 07/22/2009 - 00:00I’m from the old school, so you can’t tell me anything about my people and the politics behind this skin complexion thing. I still remember when they used to pronounce it, “dark skin-ded” and “light skin-ded with good hair.” This issue in the black community and the realm of thought behind it is as deep and complex as it is shallow and superficial. ...

Speak Out: Black images in situational comedies of the 1970sWed, 03/18/2009 - 00:00When I was growing up as a young boy in the 1970’s, I loved to watch television, just like everybody else. I think it’s safe to say that I was addicted to it. It would be hard to conjure the words to describe the excitement and satisfaction that I experienced while viewing my favorite weekly TV shows. ...
