After shooting outside White House, Trump escorted from briefing

In the midst of a briefing on Monday, the U.S. Secret Service immediately pulled President Donald Trump out of the White House press room because of a shooting outside the White House. Trump returned to the media room several minutes later and said that law enforcement had shot a individual and taken him to hospital. He said that he understood the suspect was armed.

In a tweet, the Secret Service said “the investigation into a U.S.S.S. officer involved shooting is underway. A male victim and a U.S.S.S. officer were both transported to a local hospital. The White House complex was not breached at any time during this incident or any covered persons were in danger.” Shortly before Trump was escorted out the doors to the White House briefing room were closed.

The president had been thinking about the stock market when he was interrupted just minutes into the briefing by a Secret Service agent on the podium. Also excluded from the space were Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought. Trump told reporters after he was led out that he had been taken to the Oval Office, which is near the briefing room in the West Wing.
