The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday launched an app to help select TV channels. This app allows customers to choose the channels of their choice and to remove the ones they don’t like. TRAI said in a statement that after fixing new rates for broadcasting services, it has come to the fore that customers are having difficulty in choosing the TV channels on their service providers’ web portals or apps, or choosing or removing channels in the group, Therefore, TRAI decided to develop an app that would provide information from all distribution platform operators (TV channel service providers) in one place.
TRAI said that information on large DTH service providers, multi system operators (MSOs / cable operators) is available on this app. Efforts are being made to add information of other service providers as well. The regulator said that the ‘TV Channel Selector App’ has been developed with the intention of providing transparent and reliable arrangements to TV users. The identity of all users on the app will be verified with a one-time password (OTP). This will be sent to their registered mobile number.
If a user has not registered his number with the service provider, then this OTP will appear on his TV screen. The app will allow the customer to provide information about the channels he has selected and select channels. Customers can choose the channels they like or remove channels they don’t like. The app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.
