Maharashtra state government has taken a crucial decision for all the business people of Maharashtra. All the shops in the state of Maharashtra can stay open for 24 hours a day. The Maharashtra government has issued a notification for allowing the shops to remain 24×7. But liquor shops, bars, pubs, and discotheques are exempted from this.
The Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2017, the act will allow the shops to open 24×7 and the amendment was passed by the state legislature in August. The bill was Assented by the Governor in September. The state government issued the notification on Tuesday.
Previously we were asked shops to close by 10 pm and restaurants were asked to close by 12.30 am. Once this act issued it would help to provide employment and Establishment require workers in three shifts said labour minister Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil.Maharashtra labour minister said, however, a weekly day off must be given to all the employees.
As per the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Act, smaller establishments do not need to get licences. But it is compulsory that they should register online with the authority the minister said.
This Act will provide a facility for the women to work from 9.30 pm to 7.00 am shift if they are willing to do. Over 12 lakh shops and establishments which have less than 10 employees can change the shift timings as their wish. The amended Act will provide a facility for the workers to get identity cards, weekly offs and minimum wages.
Over 35 lakh workers and labourers. would get the benefit of this act. Shops and establishments which have less than 10 employees need to submit their details as self-declaration to the local authority.
“Maharashtra is the first state to implement the Shops and Establishments Act which made the shopkeepers and smaller establishments free from licence inspectors,” said Nilangekar-Patil.
