The vaccination drive in the US is going in full swing across many states and health care workers are next in line to be immunized against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, a rising number of health care employees have refused to get a shot of the vaccine. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has reported earlier this week that around 60 percent of nursing home workers in the state so far have decided not to get a vaccine shot. As per the report, more than half of EMS workers in New York City as well have expressed skepticism towards getting the vaccine. The officials have disclosed that now, a large number of health care workers have declined to be vaccinated in California and Texas. Public Health officials have said that nearly 50 percent of frontline workers in Riverside County in the Golden State as well have opted against the vaccination.
Health authorities have said that more than half of the hospital workers at California’s Elizabeth Community hospital have been qualified for getting the vaccine but they have not got themselves vaccinated. A doctor from Houston Memorial Medical Center in the Lone Star State has said that half of the nurses have refused to be vaccinated due to some political reasons. A recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey has echoed the excuses shared by the nurses from Texas. The findings of the survey have shown that around 29 percent of health care workers have been hesitant to receive the COVID19 vaccine. Participants of the survey, who have been against taking the vaccine, have said that they are doubtful that politics might have affected the development of the vaccine. Experts have said that one nurse who has refused to take the vaccine, as she has been pregnant has said that her colleagues, who have declined to receive the vaccine, believe that they can make it through the pandemic without a vaccine.
Health experts have said that not just health care workers but many people from the general population as well have refused to receive the COVID19 vaccine. They have said that it might be a huge matter of concern. With a large number of people refusing to receive the vaccine, the efforts to vaccinate as many people as possible to put an end to the pandemic will go in vain.
